Solar blankets, otherwise known as thermal blankets have over the years become a standard feature on most swimming pools, due to the many benefits it can offer you. Solar Blankets gained popularity around the 80`s and today with all the advancements in technology this product has become more affordable for the average home owner. PLEASE NOTE THE SOLAR POOL BLANKET DOES NOT ACT AS A CHILD SAFETY BARRIER. What is a Solar Blanket? It is simply an extruded layer of polyethylene film, which looks very similar to the bubble wrapping used for packaging, except is more durable and rigid. The width of the roll is normally between 1.5m and 2m and in order to join panels for your pool size a process called hot wedge welding is used. The thickness of solar pool blankets range from 300-600 microns, 300 microns being the entry level product which in some cases will only last for one seaon. Due to quality standards, Matrixpoolcovers only offers a 400 and 500 micron blanket imported from the UK and not the locally manufactured one. This blanket is also used extensively in the Australian market which has a similar summer sun to us. Benefits of utilizing a Solar Blanket: - Passive heating (Can increase pool temperature between 3-5 Degrees celsius).
- Reduces chemical consumption (Cost saving)
- Up to 98% less water evaporation. (Cost saving)
- Saves energy (Insulates against cool night air)
- Prevents condensation on indoor pools.
- Wedge welded seams ensure a flatter and more aesthetic looking blanket.
- Available in 2 colours (Blue and black)
The colour of our blanket is a light transparent blue, allowing the suns rays to pass through and generate energy to heat up the water molecules. A black colour blanket is available, but this will only heat the top layer of the pool up to 300mm. A poly-weave blanket is also available for use on indoor swimming pools which will prevent condensation and slippery surfaces. Depending on your pool size our blankets can either be stored on a roller station system or can be rolled up by hand and stored away next to the house or in storage room etc..

How to ensure you get maximum life out of your solar blanket: Pool chemicals can greatly affect the life of your pool blanket, ensure that all levels of chemicals (Chlorine, acid etc) are kept at between 1 and 3 parts per million. If you are going to shock dose the pool with any chemicals ensure the blanket is removed first and only put back once levels have been check and are back to normal. Exposure to high chemical dosages over long periods will cause the blanket to loose it pigment and the bubbles will start disintegrating landing up at the bottom of the pool. When the blanket is taken off the pool it is important that it is stored away from sunlight and kept under the UV protective sheeting that will be supplied with it. If the blanket is being used on a pool that has solar heating, temperatures should not exceed 34 Degrees celsius, as this will reduce the life of the material. The bubble side of the blanket must face downwards on the pool at all times and with proper care and caution your blanket should last between 3 - 4 seasons.
